I felt this whole post to my absolute core - especially this: "Rrrrrreeeelax! We are here to have a good time!

We are NOT, I screamed inside. We are here to NOT DIE."

100%!! Even today, taking roadtrips for fun, I imagine terrible accidents way too regularly (and in disturbing detail 🙈).

I'm so so proud of you!! I was already impressed with you learning to drive in Zimbabwe (I imagined road conditions to be similar to South Africa and it seems I wasn't wrong), but only realised now that you obviously also learned with a manual transmission! I got my license on a manual all those years ago but think my return to driving now is completely thanks to the greater ease of driving an automatic. I think I could probably handle the clutch and gears now bc I have more practice, but I found it SO overwhelming at the beginning, in addition to steering and watching out for others etc. WELL DONE!! 🥳👍❤️

Thank you so much - you were such an inspiration to me in learning to drive at this stage of life! Funnily enough, this morning I drove automatic for the first time and it's so much easier! I was thinking, oh, this explains why American teenagers are able to drive from the age of 16... But I'm going to try and stick to manual for another few months just to cement the technique in my brain so that it's in there as some kind of muscle memory. I do think automatic definitely makes for safer driving though - just fewer things to have to think about, so you can actually focus on the road more.

Looking forward to our road trip with Laure some day! <3

Wooohooo! Congrats! Love everthing about this! I feel you on the excitement of remembering that I do in fact love learning new things. I feel like I forgot that while I was both so sick and overwhelmed with work, and am now so happy to have it back again. Also, big congrats to Little Lad! (And to you for pushing him to perservere. I chickened out on that one until I was 18 and a friend forced me!). Also, those driver manuals. And here I thought the Benz always had the right of way ;).

I remember seeing you learning to ride a bike in Hollywell Quad, I am sure! What are you learning at the moment - and how are you choosing your next 'thing'? I am very open to ideas and inspiration....

Oh my gosh! I forgot that I had practiced in Hollywell and NB when I first got a bike in Ox! Right now I am mostly (still) working on handstands, but more recent things have been various mountaineering accreditations and a rigging (for circus) course. Am also now trying to actively learn about the local botany here. My dream though would be a shop course - basic electrical stuff and tool use. I feel like I have forgotten all the handy repair/construction stuff I learned in middle school! I also want to learn to code properly one day, but I currently have no desire to be anywhere near a computer when I don't have to be...
